For the piece “Daytripper”, I wanted to give myself the challenge of developing my skills within poster design. I wanted this piece to focus on composition and color pallete, while creating something visually unique and would stand out against other band- poster designs. I wanted the poster to have an art nouveau influence so I thought the representation of the female form could spark an idea.
Once I came up with the idea of the woman looking back at her shadow, I brought the same dimension to the type face. I also really enjoy how the type is set on the same baseline where the wall and ground meet, making the whole piece feel slanted; yet another thing to catch a viewer’s eye.
After having both the imagery and the typeface, I created the pattern on the ground to contribute to the 60’s aesthetic and give the piece more visual stimulation. Throughout the piece, I was experimenting with lots of different color pallets; this earth-tone pallete felt perfect. It mixed the psychedelic nature of the poster with an earthy tone as well, creating something meant to be natural and warm.
At the end of the project, I was extremely proud of myself for being self-motivated to keep developing my skills and experimenting. This piece truly represents my style as an artist, and my ability to create designs that are unique but still communicate the message I want to send.
